VRATITSI
ВРАТИЦИ
As someone who has always struggled with verbal communication, finding unconventional ways to converse, has shifted from a necessity to a fascination.
VRATITSI is a performative ritual that intends to create a chain of conversations using clay as a mediating platform.
This artwork investigates haptic communication through a participatory installation piece that is built upon symbols of Bulgarian folklore, rites of passage and non-verbal communication. The field of haptics approaches communication through the interaction of touch. In the final artwork, touch is playfully explored as a transmitter of thought and emotions.
After responding to an invitation, 8 guests shaped a ring of clay inside a wooden construction. The participants were instructed to crawl into a rhombus shaped installation one-by-one, each with a timeslot of 30 minutes. Exiting the space, participants found a live stream projection, where they could see the person after them enter.
this ritual is to create a space outside of the concept of time and location and to find ways to stimulate conversation in this space.
